Since the Reform and Opening Up policies1 of the late 1970s and 1980s, the legal system in China, which is based on the Chinese constitution and is focused on the protection of human rights, has made considerable progress towards the eventual goal of democratic legislation practices by strengthening law administration, deepening judicial reform and publicizing new laws.
