Commentary

This work was probably written in either the First Intermediate Period or at the beginning of the Middle Kingdom. The surviving papyrus — Berlin 3024 — dates to the Middle Kingdom. The beginning of the manuscript — which probably contained a narrative frame in prose similar to those appearing in other compositions belonging to the genre of speculative wisdom literature1 — is lost.
