Selahattin (Ṣalāḥeddīn) Batu (1905–73) was a Turkish veterinarian, playwright, poet, translator, and exponent of Turkish humanism. He was interested in all kinds of Western, Mediterranean, and Turkic cultures. After studying veterinary science in Istanbul he was sent to Germany by the Ministry of Agriculture, where he obtained his doctorate (1927–31), after which he became professor of zootechnics at Ankara University, keeping this position until his retirement in 1969.
