Bernabei, Lazzaro

1430/1440-1497. Lazzaro Bernabei was born in Ancona, probably between 1430 and 1440. He seems to have studied literature and law, as he is called magister in various family deeds. Documents of the local city council record the fact that in 1451, he was asked to replace magistri Iacopo da Gubbio and Simeone in their role as public teachers. He was asked to perform the same duties again in 1493. In 1492, he began writing the chronicle of Ancona in the vernacular. The fact that the last pages of the chronicle end abruptly in the year 1497 suggests that he died around this time.
