Ertzberg, Cosmas

ca. 1470–1550. Switzerland. Ertzberg was born in Basel and studied at the local university starting in 1483. In 1488, he became a junior town clerk (Substitut), and in the years 1494–1532, he served as a scribe of the merchants' hall. Ertzberg authored a set of historiographical records concerning the years 1488 to 1532 that survive in Basel, UB, A λ II 6a, p. 41-43. This manuscript was compiled by Ertzberg himself, and also contains extracts of other chronicles from Basel (Erhard Appenwiler, the Basler Annalen, Konrad Schnitt).
