1502/03–74. Switzerland. Town chronicler. Despite his humble background, Kessler enjoyed a remarkable career in the city of St. Gallen. After attending the Latin School, he audited lectures at Basel University without being matriculated. In 1521/22, he travelled to Wittenberg where he became a follower of Philipp Melanchthon.
