Died 1557. Southern Germany. Mayor of Konstanz, author of a chronicle of the town, and also of the Konstanzer Sturm von 1548 (The storming of Konstanz in 1548). Melchior Zündelin became mayor of Konstanz in very difficult times: after Reformation thought had taken root in the city and the bishop had left permanently, the town council had at first managed to control civic life by supporting evangelical preaching and establishing strict moral laws.
