The Communauté de Taizé in Burgundy was founded at Easter in 1949 by the Swiss Reformed theologian Roger Schutz (Frère Roger; 1915–2005), when seven brothers took vows to live a common life based on traditional monastic rules (celibacy, community of goods, obedience).
