Hermeneutics (έρμηνευτιϰή sc. τέχνη, the art of interpretation) is to be distinguished from exegesis, which is the actual process of interpretation. In the technical sense, biblical hermeneutics is the investigation and determination of the rules and principles which guide the interpretation of Scripture. It is the theory or method of scriptural interpretation.
