[German Version] The Bethel confession was formulated in the latter half of 1933 under the guidance of F. v. Bodelschwingh, Jr. and at the instigation of the Reformed Youth Movement. It was an attempt to put forth a contemporary Lutheran confession of faith in rejection of “German Christian” tendencies ( Deutsche Christen ) and in opposition to the introduction of the Aryan paragraph in the statutes of the Evangelical Church.
