Artes and philosophy at Tübingen and Basel; 1557/58 doctorate from Basel. From 1558 prof. of Greek, from 1562 of logic at the Univ. of Heidelberg. Joined forces with Ulrich Zwingli. 1564/65 rector of the Univ. of Heidelberg. Work and influence X.
