Before taking up duties, Article 20 of the Statute and Article 4 of the Rules require every member of the Court to make a solemn declaration in open Court in the following terms:

I solemnly declare that I will perform my duties and exercise my powers as a judge honourably, faithfully, impartially and conscientiously.1
