The Court’s jurisdiction to give advisory opinions - based on principles quite different from its contentious jurisdiction - is set out in Article 65, paragraph 1, of the Statute. This is parallel to Article 96 of the Charter, which prescribes the organs of the United Nations and of the specialized agencies which are authorized to request advisory opinions.1 Article 65, paragraph 1, reads:
