Article 32, paragraph 4, of the Statute provides that a judge ad hoc shall receive compensation (une indemnité) for each day on which he or she exercises that function. This compensation, like the salaries of the members of the Court, is free of all taxation and cannot be decreased while the judge ad hoc is in office. The question of the compensation payable to these judges has been under constant consideration.
