The manner in which the Charter and Statute were drafted, and even more so the manner in which they have been applied, give rise to several problems of interpretation. Some of these are general to the United Nations as a whole, and hence to the Court as an organ of the United Nations: others are unique to the Court which has an independent history antedating that of the United Nations, and a field of application and manner of operation different from those of other United Nations organs.
