Biography

His father, a son of Muḥammad al-Amīn, served as a Mahdist leader (Hill, Biog. Dic., 16). ʿAbd Allāh was born on Tūtī Island and studied in Omdurman with Muḥammad al-Amīn, a cousin of Muḥammad al-Amīn al-Ḍarīr (q.v.). He was also educated at Gordon College (later, University of Khartoum), where he also taught. He was well known as a poet and literary figure.
