ʿAbābsa

A section of the Rubāṭāb who claim descent from al-ʿAbbās, uncle of the Prophet, and who are settled south of Abū Ḥamad. They have played an important role as holy men and teachers among the Rubāṭāb; see al-Shaykh, thesis (1985) and al-Ṭayyib (1991), 163-66.
