Biography

Born in Saint-Louis, Senegal, he was ʿUthmān Sy’s second son. Like his brothers, he was initiated into the Qurʾān in his family’s house in the ward of Sor in Saint-Louis. He first studied with his father, and when the latter passed away, it was with Cerno Mody Āche that he studied various Islamic sciences.
