Muḥammad al-Amīn b. Mukhtār Mbaye

Born in Dahra Djolof (north-central Senegal), he learnt the Qurʾān and the fundamentals of the Arabic language in his village. His mentors in Islamic studies were Gor Dara and Mbacké Seck. After completing his training in traditional Islamic schools, he attended two teacher training colleges: the Dār al-muʿallimīn in Dakar, and the Madrasat Takwīn al-Muʿallimīn in Tunis. He also attended the University of al-Azhar in Cairo where he graduated in 1985.
