Biography

Head of one of the branches of the Sammāniyya. He was shaykh to Muḥammad Aḥmad, later the Mahdi, between 1277/1861 and 1295/1878. They apparently quarrelled although the details are unclear. Despite his initial opposition, he subsequently joined the Mahdi.
