Biography

A renowned scholar and teacher of Timbuktu who studied with many of the leading shaykhs of that city, among them ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Maḥmūd b. ʿUmar (d. 1006/1597), Muḥammad b. Muḥammad Koray (d. 1029/1620), imām of the Sankore mosque, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Aḥmad al-Mujtahid (d. 1019/1610), and ʿAbd Allāh b. Aḥmad Buryu (d. 1010/1601-2). He also attended the seminars of Muḥammad Baghayogho al-Wangarī (q.v.).
