Biography

His ancestry goes back to the Ture lineage of Hayre (Podor) in Futa Toro. His grandfather, Siré had been Almamy of Futa Toro, c. 1823-5. His father Aḥmad had married Jeliya, daughter of Cerno Bismor Lamine Abdoulaye [al-Amīn b. ʿAbd Allāh] of the Sakho lineage of Halaybe, who ran a noted Qurʾānic school at Boghe, and who was a teacher of al-ḥājj ʿUmar.
