The six wazirs of Sokoto, from the days of amīr al-muʾminīn Muḥammad Bello (reg. 1817-37) to the present have all been from one family of Fulani scholars, and in most cases son has succeeded father. The wazirs in the nineteenth century were responsible primarily for relations between the various emirates and Sokoto.
