The so-called Apostolic Canons are 85 in number. They made up the final part of the Apostolic Constitutions of Clement, a great canonical-liturgical work which was composed in eight books at the end of the 4th century CE. The literary creation, a common occurrence in that genre of literature, attests of itself an apostolic origin, but the text was transmitted by means of Clement.
