Verifiable information about Theodore of Raith is scarce. Quite renown in his own days, he became an obscure figure in the centuries that followed. The most certain thing about him is his name and his connection with the monastic community of Raith. This community was located in the southwestern corner of the peninsula of Sinai, in the vicinity of the small town of Raith (Ραϊθός/Raithos).
