Pentecostals are known by the term Pente in Ethiopia. The term in the context of Ethiopia, is too confusing to be employed in any scholarly work without major qualification. The designation itself has now morphed into a generic label for all non-Orthodox and non-Catholic Christians in Ethiopia. The derogatory origin of Pente lends to the movement’s negative image of being counter-cultural, alien and going against the national culture.
