Early African-American Pentecostal theologian, author, leader and pastor. Garfield Thomas Haywood (1880–1931) was one of nine children born to Ben Haywood and Penny Ann Uzzle, July 15, 1880 in Greencastle, Indiana, to parents who had themselves been born into slavery. The family had moved from North Carolina in 1879, to the rural area around Greencastle, before relocating closer to Indianapolis when Garfield was just three years old. G.T.
