Lugo, Juan León

Juan León Lugo (1890–1987) was born in Yuaco, Puerto Rico, in 1890 to Juana Lugo. In 1900, she moved from there to Oahu with Juan and her daughter. She attended evangelistic meetings led by Rev. Francisco Ortiz, Sr., who had converted to Pentecostalism through the preaching of Azusa Street missionaries on their way to Asia. After spending months attending Pentecostal services with his mother and friends and reading John 5:24, Lugo converted on June 13, 1913. He joined Ortiz’s church and was baptized on Waikiki beach.
