Myo Chit was born to Baptist parents in Rangoon (now called Yangon) in Myanmar on October 23, 1930. His father was Burmese and a senior government official. His mother was German Burmese. His great grandfather was one of the initial converts of the well-known missionary, Adoniram Judson. Through the hardship of the Second World War, both of his parents had died by the time he was 13.
