Eduardo “Eddie” Cruz Villanueva was born on October 6, 1946 in Bocaue, Bulacan, the Philippines. His parents were Joaquin Villanueva and Maria Cruz. He is married to Adoracion Jose Villanueva. They have four children: Eduardo, Joni, Joel, and Jovi.

Villanueva graduated from the Philippine College of Commerce (now Polytechnic University of the Philippines) with a Bachelor’s degree in commerce.
