Zai Wang (Leland Wang, 1898–1975) was born to a non-Christian family in Fuzhou. He received education in Nanyang College in Shanghai and Chefoo Navel College. He became a naval officer after graduation.

Wang was led to Christ by his wife Pan Xiao Rong. They married in 1916 in a Protestant church. Wang started going to church with her on the first Sunday after their wedding.
