Born Karlsruhe 24. 11. 1785, died Berlin 3. 8. 1867. 1792–1803 Gymnasium illustre in Karlsruhe; 1803–1806 studied theology, then classics, at Halle. 1806/07 teacher at Berlin, where he took doctorate in 1807. 1807–1811 prof. ext. at Heidelberg; 1811–1867 prof. of classical philology at Berlin.
