Born Eastbourne 27. 2. 1874, died 3. 1. 1943 in Cambridge. 1894–1897 studied classical philology and ancient philosophy at Trinity College, Cambridge; 1899 doctorate and Fellow of Trinity; from 1902 assistant lecturer; lecturer from 1904; Laurence Prof. of Ancient Philosophy there from 1931.
