Born 26. 12. 1853 in Barmen (Wuppertal), died at Nidri on Lefkas, 25. 4. 1940. 1873–1876 studied architecture at Bauakademie in Berlin; 1876 graduate in architectural studies; 1882 Dr. phil. h. c. at Würzburg. 1887–1912 head of the DAI in Athens; 1923 honorary prof. at Jena.
