German poet. Born Frankfurt am Main 28. 8. 1749, died Weimar 22. 3. 1832. Privately educated from 1753 by his father and several tutors. 1765–1768 studied law at Leipzig, 1770/71 at Strasbourg. Doctorate (licensiate) of law at Strasbourg. 1771–1775 worked as lawyer in Frankfurt. 1772 trainee at Reichskammergericht in Wetzlar. Moved to Weimar 1775.
