Danish classical philologist and historian of mathematics. Born Aalborg 27. 11. 1854, died 4. 1. 1928. Studied classical philology at Copenhagen from 1871, doctorate there 1879. From 1883, member of the Danish Academy of Sciences, 1902–1913 its secretary. 1884–1895 headmaster of the Borgerdydskole in Østerbro; 1896–1924 ¶ prof. of classical philology and ancient history at Copenhagen, univ. rector 1915/16.
