Born 26. 3. 1859 in Fockbury (Worcestershire), died 30. 4. 1936 in Cambridge. 1877–1881 studied Literae humaniores at St. John’s College, Oxford; 1882–1892 worked in the London Patent Office. 1892–1911 prof. of Latin at Univ. College, London; 1911–1936 prof. of Latin at Cambridge.
