Austrian legal historian. Born Vienna 21. 4. 1906, died Ainring (Upper Bavaria) 13. 1. 1997. School at Salzburg, Czernowitz and Graz. From 1924, studied law at Graz and Munich. Doctorate 1928 at Graz; habil. 1931 at Giessen. 1933–1959 prof. ord. at Münster, interrupted by war service from 1943 and war captivity until 1946; 1959 prof. ord. at Hamburg; retired 1971. 1971–1976 honorary prof. at Salzburg. Member of various acads.
