Born Bischofswerda 13. 11. 1738, died Halle 31. 12. 1771. 1758–1760 studied at Leipzig, 1761–1762 at Jena, where he won venia legendi. 1762 prof. ext. at Göttingen, 1763–1765 prof. ord. there. 1765 prof. of philosophy and eloquence at Halle. From 1766, privy councillor and librarian there.
