German classical philologist. Born Frankenstein (Silesia, now Ząbkowice Śląskie, Poland) 7. 10. 1869, died Berlin 21. 4. 1939. Studied classical philology at Breslau from 1887, going for a time to Berlin in the winter semester of 1887/88. 1891 doctorate at Breslau; 1892 two semesters at Bonn. Habil. 1894 at Breslau. 1899 prof. of classical philology at Greifswald; 1906–1913 prof. at Münster, then prof. at Breslau until 1935.
