German classical philologist. Born Gotha 22. 3. 1802, died Hannover 16. 4. 1878. School at Gotha; from 1821 studied at Göttingen, 1825 doctorate there. Schoolteacher at the Lyceum in Hannover from 1825; later director. Retired 1863. Member of the Frankfurter Gelehrtenverein (Frankfurt Society for Scholarly Research into the German Language).

Work and influence

K. studied classical philology, chiefly with Georg Ludolph Dissen, to whom he dedicated his 1829 edition of Cicero’s Tusculanae disputationes. The works of Cic…
