German educationalist and classical philologist. Born 7. 2. 1841 in Seesen, died Goslar 9. 1. 1939. 1860–1863 studied classical philology and history at Göttingen; diss. De praepositionum usu apud Aeschylum there 1863. Schoolteacher from 1864 at Helmstedt, 1866–1876 at Holzminden, 1876–1894 at Sangerhausen, from 1887 headmaster. 1894–1900 Gymnasium headmaster at Wittstock. 1928 honorary doctorate from Univ. of Münster.
