German archaeologist. Born Theodor Sigismund P., Breslau, 25. 2. 1800, died Berlin 20. 6. 1858. Attended Breslau Friedrichsgymnasium; studied classical philology at Univ. of Berlin from 1819, doctorate there in 1822 with the diss. De rebus Samiorum. 1823 in Rome, 1824–1830 in Naples, 1830–1834 in Paris. 1827 habil. at Berlin. 1836 assistant at the Berliner Museum; from 1844 prof. ext. at Univ. of Berlin; 1856 conservator at Königliches Museum, Berlin.
