Real name Wengler/Wängler; German theologian, philologist and grammarian. Born Hemsbach an der Bergstrasse (diocese of Worms) 24. 5. 1576, died 1648 in Hanau. Studied at the Casimirianum, the univ. at Neustadt an der Haardt (Weinstrasse) that only existed for a few years, then at Heidelberg and Basel; 1599 headmaster in Kreuznach, then in Neuhaus; 1610–1622 rector of the Collegium in Neustadt. From 1622 rector and prof. of theology, Hebrew and philosophy at Gymnasium illustre in Hanau. 1647 theology doctorate …
