Born Rome 29. 4. 1885, died Belluno 9. 10. 1952. 1907 graduation (laurea) from Univ. of Rom; 1908–1909 studied at Berlin and Göttingen. 1910 lecturer in Greek literature at Rome. 1911/12 prof. ext. at Messina; 1912–1915 prof. ext. at Göttingen, doctorate there 1913. 1915–1920 prof. ext. at Florence; 1924 prof. ord. in Greek there. From 1930, teacher at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa.
