German classical philologist. Born Ludwigslust 20. 9. 1786, died Breslau 11. 3. 1883. 1802–1804 Gymnasium Ernestinum in Gotha; from 1804 studied theology and classical philology at Leipzig. From 1807, prof. of Greek at Weimar Gymnasium; from 1810 co-director of Conradinum at Jenkau, near Danzig. 1814/15 studied at Berlin. 1815 prof. ord. of classics at Breslau.
