French physician and antiquarian. Born Lyon 7. (or 13.) 1. 1647, died Vevey (Switzerland) 25. 12. 1685. Studied with the historian Johann Heinrich Boeckler in Strasbourg from 1662, then trained as a doctor in Paris with Guy Patin. 1664–1667 medical studies in Montpellier. 1667 doctorate from the Collège médical of Lyon. 1674–1676 travelled via Italy (Rome and Venice) to Greece and Constantinople. 1685 fled to Switzerland because of the persecution of Calvinist Protestants and the prospect of bei…
