Baltic German Classicist painter and draughtsman. Born Reval (then Russian Estonia) 14. or 25. 7. 1786, died St. Petersburg 27. 3. 1837. Studied classical archaeology from 1801 at the Pädagogium in Halle, then in 1803 at the Univ. of Göttingen (also art history there with Johann Dominicus Fiorillo).
