German numismatist, gemmologist and antiquarian. Born Küstrin (Brandenburg) 22. 3. 1691, died Florence 7. 11. 1757. In the Netherlands from 1710, entering diplomacy and numismatics. Secret diplomatic mission to London 1712. 1714 travelled to Rome. 1717–1718 via Florence and Venice to Vienna, Prague and Dresden. 1719– 1721 again in the Netherlands. 1722–1731 in Rome; thereafter in Florence until his death.
