Born Jaslo (Austrian Galicia, now Jasło, Poland) 14. 8. 1860, died Leipzig 4. 12. 1929. 1879/80 studied classical archaeology at the German Univ. in Prague and at Vienna. Doctorate 1882 Vienna, then assistant in the new archaeological and epigraphic seminar. 1885–1887 travel bursary for Greece and Italy. 1887 habil. in Vienna. 1889 initially prof. ext., then 1891 prof. ord. in classical archaeology at Freiburg; 1896 prof. ord. at Univ. of Leipzig.
